Sedum 'Angelina', also known as Sedum rupestre 'Angelina', is a beautiful and versatile succulent that adds a vibrant splash of color to any garden. Known for its brilliant chartreuse to golden-yellow foliage, this low-growing perennial is a favorite among gardeners for its easy-care nature and stunning visual appeal.

Full Description

Sedum 'Angelina' is a groundcover succulent with needle-like, fleshy leaves that form a dense mat. The foliage is a striking chartreuse-green for most of the year, but it transforms into a brilliant golden-yellow with orange-red tips in cooler weather, especially in autumn and winter. This color change is one of its most captivating features.

In summer, 'Angelina' produces clusters of tiny, star-shaped yellow flowers that rise above the foliage on short stems. These flowers are attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies. The plant typically grows to a height of about 6 inches (15 cm) and can spread up to 2 feet (60 cm) or more, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, borders, and container arrangements.

Growing Tips

  • Soil: Sedum 'Angelina' thrives in well-draining soil. It is not picky about soil type and can tolerate poor, rocky, or sandy soil. The key is to avoid heavy, clay-rich soil that retains too much moisture, as this can lead to root rot. A mix of potting soil with sand or perlite works well for containers.

  • Sunlight: This succulent prefers full sun to partial shade. For the most vibrant and intense golden color, plant it in a location where it receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. In very hot climates, a little afternoon shade can be beneficial to prevent scorching.

  • Water Requirements: As a succulent, 'Angelina' is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering. Water thoroughly but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems with this plant. During the active growing season (spring and summer), you may water every 1-2 weeks. In fall and winter, reduce watering significantly, or stop altogether if the plant is dormant.

  • Fertilizer: Sedums are not heavy feeders. A single application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring is usually sufficient. Over-fertilizing can lead to leggy growth and reduced color intensity.

  • Pruning: 'Angelina' requires little to no pruning. You can trim back any leggy stems in the spring to maintain a tidy shape. Deadheading the spent flower stalks is optional but can improve the plant's appearance.

Propagation

Propagating Sedum 'Angelina' is incredibly easy, making it a great plant for sharing with friends. The most common and successful methods are:

  • Stem Cuttings: Take a cutting of a healthy stem, about 2-4 inches long, and remove the lower leaves. Allow the cut end to callus over for a day or two in a dry, shady spot. Then, simply insert the cutting into well-draining soil. Keep the soil slightly moist until roots develop.

  • Division: Mature plants can be divided in the spring. Gently dig up the plant, separate the root ball into smaller sections, and replant them. This is a great way to rejuvenate an older plant and create new ones.

  • Layering: Stems that touch the ground will often root on their own. You can gently pin a stem to the soil to encourage it to root, and once established, cut it from the parent plant.

Pests and Diseases

Sedum 'Angelina' is generally pest and disease resistant. However, it can occasionally be affected by:

  • Root Rot: This is the most common issue, caused by overwatering and poor drainage.

  • Aphids and Mealybugs: These can sometimes appear but are usually not a major problem. They can be treated with insecticidal soap or a strong spray of water.

  • Slugs and Snails: They may feed on the foliage, especially in moist conditions.

Not worth the paper it’s printed on.
Format: Paperback
I can’t say that I was expecting such a slim volume on 10,000 years of Chinese culture to be a work of rigorous scholarship, but I also wasn’t expecting it to be quite *this* dreadful. It is badly written to the point of being unreadable, and it is clear that no one thought to edit the document before publication. I made it about twenty pages in before I had to put it down. The entire thing reads like an Anthropology 101 term paper written by a first semester college freshman who hasn’t quite figured out how to back up claims with evidence yet.

It all makes sense now
Format: Kindle
This book covers Ancient Chinese History, Starting from the Settlement at the Yellow River through the Xia, Shang, Zhou, and Qin Dynasties to the Han Dynasty. This should ring a bell for some folks as this is the period around the Yellow River shows the early development of man in this region. Ancient Chinese history is a tapestry of remarkable achievements, cultural developments, and political transitions that unfolded over thousands of years. It all began with the settlement at the Yellow River, where early agricultural communities emerged around 5000 BCE. This period witnessed the gradual transition from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to settled farming communities, marking the foundation of Chinese civilization. From this fertile ground, the Xia Dynasty rose in the 21st century BCE, establishing the first recorded dynasty in Chinese history. Although little written evidence remains, the Xia period laid the groundwork for future dynasties, fostering advancements in agriculture, irrigation systems, and early forms of government. The subsequent Shang Dynasty (16th–11th century BCE) witnessed great cultural achievements, including the development of a complex writing system and the creation of magnificent bronze artworks. It was during this era that the concept of the Mandate of Heaven emerged, which stated that rulers' legitimacy depended on their ability to govern effectively. Following the fall of the Shang Dynasty, the Zhou Dynasty (1046–256 BCE) emerged and introduced the feudal system, characterized by a decentralized government. This era saw the flourishing of philosophy, with notable thinkers like Confucius and Laozi influencing Chinese thought for centuries to come. The Qin Dynasty (221–206 BCE) unified China under the rule of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, bringing about remarkable political and administrative reforms. It standardized currency, measurements, and writing systems, and constructed the Great Wall of China. Although short-lived, the Qin Dynasty paved the way for the subsequent Han Dynasty. The Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE) was a period of significant cultural and technological advancements. It expanded the empire's territorial reach, established the Silk Road, and embraced Confucianism as the official ideology. The Han Dynasty left a lasting legacy, shaping the Chinese state and society for centuries. Through these pivotal dynasties, Ancient Chinese history witnessed the development of a rich and enduring civilization, with contributions that continue to influence the world today.
